The E-Commerce Report in yesterday’s NY Times profiled GoodSearch.com, a search engine that donates to its users’ favorite charities. Each search will generate 0.01 percent for the designated charity. A small charity with a 100 supporters searching twice a day would receive $730 annually.
GoodSearch plans to have a tracking system up and running early next year that will keep users abreast of how much their searches have benefited their favorite charities.

I find this fascinating. Who do you think their target demographic is?
I think they are wide open with their demo. Some people like travel rewards, some people like gifts. And some people like to give back. I think this could be especially attractive to schools in affluent areas. The parents are online and the kind of money is in line with their fundraising expectations. It’s incremental money that’s easy to get.
Does GoodSearch advertise with charities in order to spread the word, widen their audience, and get new clients? It’s a great concept.
They are. Especially with smaller groups and schools.
