Sisters Ramona and Liz always dreamed of owning their own clothing boutique. They loved fashion and always followed the latest trends and styles.
Last month their dream came true when Ramona opened her own online store, Uptown Liz. Ramona named it after her sister because while it was her creation, Liz had been the inspiration, especially after she died of breast cancer in 2006 at the age of 28.
Uptown Liz honors Ramona’s sister and is a portal for consumers and companies that want to work together to help worthy causes. Ramona calls it "Retail Philanthropy".
Through their online database you can search by cause or product. For example, if you click on Children’s Health you get 7 products from perfume to blankets that support children’s causes. Or, if you search under Jewelry, you get 21 products that benefit causes like the Global Fund to Fight Aids and BeadforLife.
Currently, Uptown Liz has 30 causes and 12 product categories. But this should grow significantly in the coming months.
Ramona isn’t new to fundraising for causes. A team captain for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in June, her team raised $22,000.
Despite losing Liz, Ramona has accomplished a lot the past couple years. She’s a survivor, a fundraiser, an advocate and even a marathoner. Now she’s a retailer. A love for fashion isn’t the only thing Ramona shares with Liz. She too is an uptown girl.

THREE WEEKS LEFT IN RAZOO’s $10,000 CHANGE YOUR WORLD CONTEST
Advocacy Organizations Can Leverage Social Networking to Support their Causes
(Washington, D.C.) – August 27, 2007 – Only three weeks remain in Razoo’s Change Your World contest. Any social change organization that creates a group on Razoo.com and recruits 100 members to join by September 15, 2007 will become eligible to win a $10,000 prize. The winner will be determined by Razoo’s online community. Non-profits, student groups and other social change organizations are eligible to win the prize in support of their work.
“Social networks have enormous power to build online communities, and here at Razoo we’re building a community of people who are passionate about causes and are looking for ways to make a difference,” said Razoo CEO J. Sebastian Traeger. “Razoo’s Change Your World contest helps inspire organizations and individuals to get involved and make positive change in the world without reaching into their wallets. We hope organizations will take advantage of the power of social networking to promote social good. The more community members any organization recruits, the more likely they are to win the prize and have a more powerful online voice.”
In addition to the Change Your World contest, Razoo has launched several other platforms to inspire giving and serving. Speed Granting is an online platform enabling social entrepreneurs to compete with one another for funding, by pitching their projects to peers who cast votes to determine the recipients of the grants. Brewing Good is an offline event series that brings people together in a fun and creative environment to encourage, recognize and celebrate the good they are doing. The Good Happens blog and newsletter shine a spotlight on the good that happens around us every day.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Razoo is a start-up founded in October 2006. Its mission is to promote social good, and to inspire others to get involved by making giving and serving fun, easy and meaningful.
