Shopping Disasters
They say that death is bad for the person but good for the undertaker. The same could be said of disasters. They're bad for the victims but good for the fundraiser.
2006 will be remembered for many things, but not for a major disaster like Katrina in '05 or the Tsunami the year before. As media coverage of these two disasters has waned, so have donations to relief organizations that are preparing for the next big one.
Care, Save the Children and Mercy Corps, three organizations that respond to disasters, have all seen double digit drops in fundraising. And one organization, The American Red Cross, has doubled their fundraising costs as they spend more to raise less.
