Newsletter: 7 Ways to Generate More Partnership Referrals ๐Ÿค ; Two Good Reasons to be on Twitter Right Now ๐Ÿฆ ; Great Lake Offers Superior Advice on Abortion Debate ๐ŸŒŠ

Last month 111 people signed up for my newsletter. Welcome! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹ That's my best month evahh!! And in a summer month to boot!

While some newsletters get 100 or more subscribers every day, 100+ is pretty good for a super-niche newsletter like mine!

For readers new and old, here's how to get the most out of my newsletter....

1. Whitelist my email address. ๐Ÿ“ฎ Spam filters are getting brutal, people, and I'm finding that my newsletter is going to spam or junk folders more than ever.

Take a moment to whitelist my email, joe@selfishgiving.com.

Whitelisting an email address just means you add it to your approved senders list. This tells your email client that you know this sender and trust them, which will keep emails from this contact at the top of your inbox and out of the junk folder.

If you don't know how to whitelist an email, just reply to this email and tell me which email client you use (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) and I'll send you instructions. I'll even call you to walk you through it and to answer any questions. Yeah, it's that important! ๐Ÿคฒ

Finally, remember that I repost my newsletter on my blog. There's no good reason NOT to miss an issue.

2. Have a question? Just reply to my newsletter. I will always get back to you. ALWAYS. If you don't hear back from me in 24 hours, I didn't get your email...or I'M DEAD.๐Ÿ’€

You can also call my business line: 617-68-4JOEW. However, if I am dead, I most likely won't pick up (but wouldn't be so cool if I did? Boy, will we have a lot to discuss.๐Ÿ˜™).

3. If you hit a paywall, I can email you the article. There is nothing worse than when someone says "Hey, you should read this!" but the link they sent you takes you to a paywall. I hate that as much as you do!

Don't fret or get mad that I included a link that goes to an article you can't access. Just reply to this email and I'll send you the article just as soon as I can.

4. My newsletter is a reader-supported publication. I โค๏ธ writing and sharing my newsletter every week. It's fun! But I also publish it because it allows me to buy more plants ๐Ÿชด (let's face it, that's the most important thing), eat food, and live indoors.๐Ÿ˜ฌ

My business model is simple.

I write a useful and entertaining newsletter every week, and a very small percentage of you ๐Ÿค write back and hire me for...

  • Coaching. Partnership teams buy an hour of my time so I can help them develop and grow their corporate partnership program. If you are lagging somewhere on the partnership solicitation process map, I can help! Some teams hire me once-a-quarter, others once-a-month, and some once-a-week! My rate is $250 per hour.

  • Case Studies. Partnership teams hire me to write-up partnership success stories so they can use them to recruit new partners! It works. My rates if $1,000 per case study.

  • Consulting. I partner with other social impact agencies to provide a boots-on-the-ground perspective on how to execute partnership programs. Agencies provide the strategy. I help with the tactics. My rates vary for this depend on the need and length of engagement.

  • Speaking. I speak to organizations about sponsorship, cause marketing, corporate partnerships in general, and audience-centric fundraising. However, the ongoing pandemic has limited these presentations to Zoom, but I hope to be back to live next year!

The #1 thing I want you to remember is that I'm here to help.

I think most people who know me would say I'm very generous with my time.๐Ÿ˜‡ What can I say, I'm a giver! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

If you have a question, call or write. Don't worry about the fee. A lot of times I'll help you for FREE. We'll both know when it feels like coaching or consulting or something else and we can act accordingly.

Again, if you are a new reader: Welcome! ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿ™Œ ๐Ÿป

If you are an existing reader, surely you know how much I โค๏ธ you already...don't you?

โœ๏ธ Partnership Notes

1. This multi-part podcast series on generating referrals from Duct Tape Marketing is outstanding! Referrals are in the bullseye of my prospecting circles ๐ŸŽฏ training and we need to master most - if not all - of the seven approaches DTM recommends. I might do a deeper dive on this if you are interested. Just click the link to show your interest!

2. 5 ways to take your pitch to the next level. I agree with the gang at Remarkable Partnerships that one key is knowing what not to talk about.

3. How brands in Canada are using their sponsorships to advance social change. A very powerful strategy!

๐Ÿค‘ Marketing Your Cause

1. There are two good reasons to be on Twitter right now. First, Musk isn't buying the platform. Second, Twitter is where all the journalists are.

2. Lake Superior took a side on the abortion debate and created a tidal wave of responses and controversy on Twitter. ๐ŸŒŠ

3. I'm a big fan of sending plain text emails. But they need to be done right. Here are four best practices.

๐Ÿ˜Ž Cool Jobs in Cause

1. Territory Business Development & Partnerships Director West, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Remote ($68k - $94k)

2. Corporate Sponsorship & Partnerships Program Officer, International Documentary Association, Los Angeles

3. Assistant Director, Corporate Engagement, ACLU, NYC ($110,206)

4. Associate Director, Corporate Partnerships, American Association for Cancer Research, Philadelphia ($105k - $125k)

5. Senior Director of Corporate Engagement, Wildlife Conservation Society, Remote ($75k - $100k)

๐Ÿง ๐ŸŒ Brain Food

1. A โ€˜stockโ€™ market for animals? This idea aims to protect threatened species by putting a value on certain species. I'm buying 100 shares of ๐Ÿฆ‹ and 500 shares of ๐Ÿ.

2. 7 fundraising tips for surviving the apocalypse of 2022. Tip #5: Engage your core donors as you never have before.

3. Interesting video explains why people looked a lot older in the past than they do today. In other news, I'm aging like last month's newspaper and it ain't pretty. ๐Ÿ—ž
