Newsletter: 6 Steps to Kickstart Corporate Partnerships🦵🏻; Let’s Meetup at the EFG Conference This Week 🥳 ; Nonprofit or For-Profit? Consumers Are Confused by Value Village 🤔
As you read this email, I am on my way to the Engage for Good Conference in Atlanta. I'll be there all day today and tomorrow.
A few things...
🍸 This evening, my friends at Good Scout and I are hosting a mixer. This event is for friends of GS and for folks who registered for the conference with the special acronym "SGEFG" (which is basically a secret code for "special guests" of Joe!). If you are in this special group, you should have already received my invitation to the event.
If you didn't get the invite, reply to this email, and I'll resend it to you as soon as I get on the ground in Atlanta.
🤝 If you are at the conference, I want to meet you! Call or text me at 617-68-4JOEW. DON'T leave Atlanta without saying hello to me - or you'll hurt my feelings! 😩
📣 My presentation, Creating Case Studies That Strengthen Your Programs: A Workshop For Businesses & Nonprofits will be in the Chastain Room on the 6th floor. It begins at 10:45 a.m. SHAHHHP on Thursday morning.
My suggestion: GET THERE EARLY. According to EFG, over 200 people have registered for this session and the room won't be able to accommodate everyone. How sad would it be if you were turned away?😭
You don't want to be left out of this EPIC WORKSHOP where I'll be sharing game-changing advice on how to create and use case studies in your partnership program!
See you in 🔥🔥🔥-LANTA!!!
✍️ Partnership Notes
1. Six steps to kickstart corporate partnerships. #3: Identify ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ prospects.
2. The backlash against tipping is an excellent opportunity for partnership peeps. Share this article with prospective retailers and encourage them to switch from tipping to a round-up program for your nonprofit.
3. 8 attention-grabbing prospecting phrases that buck conventional wisdom. As a voracious reader, #8 is my absolute fave: "I just read your article on X topic. Could you expand upon Y point?"
🤑 Marketing Your Cause
1. Interesting marketing challenge! Colonial Williamsburg brings its history into the 21st century. “Everything is going to be what actually happened. That’s who we are.”
2. Organic search is no longer delivering for nonprofits. The article suggests paid search, but I would combine it with email marketing so you can capture and keep these visitors.
3. B2B buyers (aka your prospects!) are demanding more email newsletters. The one-two punch for your partnership program is a newsletter for the awareness stage of the funnel and case studies for the consideration and decision-making stages.
I can help you with both! Just hit reply to this email and we can schedule a call for when I'm back from the conference.
😎 Cool Jobs in Cause
1. Multiple Partnership Positions, Operation Warm, Remote
2. Strategic Relations, Global Reporting Initiative, Remote ($100k)
3. Director of Strategic Partnerships, ACLU SoCal, Los Angeles ($110k - $125k)
4. Director, Relationship Events & Corporate Initiatives, Alzheimer's Association, McLean, VA
🧠🍌 Brain Food
1. Charity or business? Some consumers are confused by the for-profit store chain Value Village and its marketing approach.
2. Companies are demonstrating brand power by raising prices. Should nonprofits that are "in demand" follow suit and charge more for sponsorships and ask for more from donors? 🤔
"Coach CEO Todd Kahn said that some of the brand’s smallest bags cost the most, because they are on trend and in demand by consumers. 'Emotion always trumps price," he said."
3. Trying to implement change in your organization? Sell success rather than an idea. "When people see that something is working, they want to be involved, and they bring in others who can bring in others still."
