Newsletter: Not Business as Usual ✊; Companies Tweet Support for Protests But What About Real Change? 🤔 ; The #1 Reason to be on Twitter🏆
I have to be honest with you. I don't much feel like talking about corporate partnerships this week. After the events of the past eight days, it seems insignificant.
What I want is to love and respect my country again.
Years ago during a visit to the U.K. I visited the Tower of London. The tour guide asked the crowd if there were any Americans in the group. A dozen people, including me and my wife, immediately raised their hands. The tour guy chuckled, "I love asking that question because Americans are always so proud to raise their hands!" Of course we are, I thought at the time. Why wouldn't we want to raise our hands?
No more.
I'm embarrassed and ashamed to be an American.
I'm embarrassed by a president that every day sinks to a new low that knows no bottom. I'm horrified by my countrymen's treatment of black men, women and children. I'm sickened by "protectors" who shoot tear gas and rubber bullets at peaceful protestors.
I want to raise my hand again.🖐 I want to proudly say I'm an American.🇺🇸 But I can't. I hope one day I can. But there's a lot of work to be done before then. I plan to do my part. BTW, I'm not sure what this totally means yet. Do you feel as I do? What are you doing?
✍️ Partnership Note
1. Only 35% of adults said they would view a company more favorably if they donated to a cause. But what if that cause directly supported those impacted by the protests? The favorability would be much higher. The message: nonprofits need to show the tangible impact they are having on TODAY's crisis. Those that can will earn corporate support.
2. Companies tweet their solidarity with George Floyd protests, but can they contribute to real change? Their FEC filings may tell the real story.
3. Research: your prospective partners want more data and research.
4. Pizza Hut and dairy farmers team up to deliver 500,000 pizzas to America's high school graduates.
