Newsletter: Cause Marketing for Hedgehogs is a Real Thing 🦔 ; Shell Gets Shelled Over She’ll ⛽️ ; What Nonprofits Should be Doing During the Pandemic ✅

IMG_3917.jpg

A lighter newsletter this week as I'm busy teaching at the New Strategies Program in the Business for Impact program at Georgetown University.

Yep, that's me in the duck costume.🦆Curt Weeden, the founder of New Strategies and a corporate giving savant, called me a few weeks back and asked me if I would mind wearing a costume at New Strategies. I said sure! Heck, why wouldn't I?

When I got off the phone my wife asked me why Curt called. When I told her she gave me a crazy look. "What kind of costume?" she asked. "I don't know," I told her.

I only know that when the world famous Curt Weeden asked you to do something, YOU DO IT!!

It turns out that Curt had a fun reason for me to wear the costume. He gave a great presentation on DAFS (donor-advised funds), which Curt calls DAFFYS. Get it? Anyway, the audience will remember that presentation, especially since they all got a picture with me afterward!

BTW, Curt has a great new book out on leadership.

✍️ Partnership Notes

SWNS_HIBERNATION_ARMS_48-2-scaled-e1581069501415.jpg

1. I love when companies choose unique causes to support! A brewery launched The Hibernation Arms in partnership with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society. 🦔

2. Great case study here on the win-win partnership between National Audubon Society🦉and footwear brand AllbirdsBuild an audience. Engage with that audience. Monetize that audience.

3. Interesting, worthwhile and on-brand. L'Oréal Paris is working with the nonprofit Hollaback! to train one million people in bystander intervention to tackle street harassment.

4. An inside look into how American Airlines executed its 2019 campaign with Stand Up To Cancer.

5. Shell gets shelled over She'll. They could learn a thing or two from Lush.

🤑 Marketing Your Cause

1. A paragraph by paragraph guide on how to write a great feature release that reporters and audiences want to read.

2. How the World Health Organization (WHO) is using TikTok to prevent the spread of coronavirus misinformation online.

3. Another reason you should be focusing on email. No more free cookies.🍪

😎 Cool Jobs in Cause

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. Why Purell can't join the conversation around personal cleanliness and coronavirus. Follow this article up with this one on why most brands (except Lush) are washing their hands of coronavirus.

2. Something every nonprofit should be talking about: the pandemic is an opportunity to change processes.

3. The people who teach others how to live in the Stone Age. 😳🔥
