Newsletter: Winning with Corporate Partners in 2021 Begins Today ๐Ÿค ; How to Hire Your Teamโ€™s First Marketer ๐Ÿค” ; NFL, Nike Court a New Football Market: Girls ๐Ÿˆ

Two announcements this week...

1. Two great upcoming events. I'm looking forward to seeing you at one or both of these events!

  • Engage for Good's Winning with Corporate Partners in 2021 begins TODAY and continues through Friday. This is going to be a great event! Check it out and signup here!

  • Looking for a global perspective on nonprofit and for-profit partnerships? Check out the full line-up of sessions and speakers for Corporate Partnerships Everywhere on February 25th.

2. I've jumped on Clubhouse and will be launching a room soon! But will YOU be there? Are you on Clubhouse? Connect with me @joewaters. Need an invite? I have five to give away. Just hit reply and let me know. And a big thanks to Alli Murphy at Engage for Good for the invite to join da club! If you want to learn more about how to use the Clubhouse app, I found this article helpful (again, an Alli reco ๐Ÿฅฐ).

โœ๏ธ Partnership Notes

1. Audience, audience, audience. Companies look for audiences to tell them what is good, popular and profitable in the world. Who is your audience? Where does it live? Build it and companies will find you.

2. Did you see the Tide ad during Super Bowl LV with Jason Alexander? You can win your own Jason Alexander #TideHoodie - but you first have to donate to Feeding America or Matthew 25: Ministries.

3. Check out how Out Teach updated its partnership materials for a Covid world. Newsletter subscriber and partnership manager Mackenzie Pelaez wrote:

[In 2020] We recognized that there was a monumental shift in CSR with a more targeted focus on equity and how it impacts education. As we listened to our partners priorities change and understood the evolving inequities in our education system, our team put together some ideas and initiatives for how corporations can achieve their business objectives while driving forward impact.

Nice pivot, Mackenzie and team. And thank you for sharing your work with all of us!

๐Ÿค‘ Marketing Your Cause

1. Some useful advice on how to hire your first marketer. Avoid hiring people with "too many firsts."

2. What a great annual report from Fight Colorectal Cancer. What makes it so great? I'll let my friend Peter Panepento tell you.

3. Audio social media is hot right now. Brian Honigman explains which orgs should jump on board Clubhouse and Discord and which orgs should wait on joining the club.

๐Ÿง ๐ŸŒ Brain Food

1. And you thought you were having a bad day. Angry day traders target the wrong Robin Hood and threaten a nonprofit CEO.

2. One-year ago yesterday, the nonprofit community lost a leader and I lost my good buddy, John Haydon. I think about him every day. John was a Buddhist. Reading this interview with singer Tina Turner about how much Buddhism changed her life for the better reminded me how John stared down cancer and death with hope, courage and dignity. The current of John's life flows in all who loved him. ๐ŸŒŠ ๐Ÿ™
