Open Rate is the percentage of people who opened my newsletter. Most newsletters are lucky to get 15 to 20%! My highest open rate last year was almost 60%.
Click Rate is the percentage of subscribers who clicked on an article to read. The industry average is 2.5%.
Clicks is the total number of links that subscribers clicked on. 1,000+ is a lot for a niche newsletter.

🚨Attention OUTLOOK email users.🚨Before the holiday vacation, I asked my subscribers if my newsletter looked as perfect when they received it as it did when I sent it. Many of you who use Outlook as an email provider replied that my emails look terrible in Outlook! 🙀I took up the issue with ConvertKit, my email service provider. Two updates:
1. We are working on a fix for this. I won't bore you with the details. But please be patient.
2. In the meantime, you can bypass a poorly formatted newsletter. Just click on the Selfish Giving logo at the top and you can read my newsletter on my web site! I publish it there at the same time I send my newsletter.

4. I got a question last week on developing guidelines for companies that want to pursue a marketing partnership with a nonprofit. Of course, I asked the indefatigable Karen Wu of Perlman & Perlman for advice. Karen conceded that this was less of a legal question and more a strategic and ethical....but she still gave me two resources. Karen is the best! One from Doctors Without Borders. The other from World Wildlife Fund. Do you have a policy you'd be willing to share?
5. You know my hometown is Boston🦞❄️🖕and I love reporting on local cause marketing initiatives. Two caught my eye this past week. First, Boston's only t-shirt bakery, Johnny Cupcakes, is supporting Australia with an #AustraliaStrong tee. Second, my friend, Tom O'Keefe, runs a great organization called Stride for Stride, which buys running racing bids for those who can't afford them. Tom's goal is to make races more diverse and accessible. He shared with me all the ways footwear brand Saucony is supporting his efforts. Great work!
